HAVE YOU EVER BEEN REJECTED?

O, The Oprah Magazine called Other People's Love Letters "addictive," Esquire described it as "painfully entertaining." Now you can be a part of the follow-up book.

Other People's Rejection Letters will feature reproductions of all kinds of rejection letters. Whether typed form letters or handwritten in a fit of rage, whether sent by text message, email, or scrawled in crayon, any kind of rejection is fair game: You didn't get the job or the loan or the membership; you're not the right fit for our dentistry school; you're my son but I never want to see you again; your restaurant failed its health inspection; your parole has been denied; we had a good time together but you cheated on me so this is goodbye.

“Don't worry: I can digitally black-out any last names so that you won't be identifiable,” said Bill Shapiro, Editor of Other People’s Love Letters

So if you have a rejection letter or two tucked back there in the closet (or if you've written any) that you'd be willing to share, now's your chance to be part of the book.

“You can send them to 1000rejectionletters@gmail.com. And if you have any questions, I'll answer them right away,” he said.

Imagine

by Brianna Berry

Imagine a world without haters.
Imagine a world without suffering.
Imagine a world where no one goes to heck.
Imagine, just Imagine.

What if there was a world without death?
What if there was a world with no lies?
What if there was a world with no wars?
What if? What if?

How about a world without drugs?
How about a world without rape?
How about a world without broken hearts?
How about this? How about that?

What if there was a world without tears?
How about a world without suicide?
Imagine a world without pain.
Just Imagine

Early Reviews and a 12-Minute 'Harry Potter' Preview

Posted by: Erik Davis on July 7, 2009

Now that Transformers, Public Enemies, Wolverine and Terminator have all come through the summer blockbuster meat grinder, it's time to focus all of our attention on the long-awaited return of our favorite boy wizard, Harry Potter. For those of you out there simply dying to see more of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince prior to its July 15th release date, the good news is the recent 12-minute HBO First Look is now online for you to watch, love and obsess over.

Split into two parts (and available on YouTube here and here), the First Look features tons of clips from the upcoming movie, as well as interviews with the cast and filmmakers. Half-Blood Prince just started screening for the press, and the buzz is extremely high – to the point where some are saying that this Potter film could be the first nominated for a best picture Academy Award. I know it's crazy to even think of such a thing, but with the new Oscar rules allowing ten nominees, and with Potter nearing the end of his cinematic journey (resulting in larger, darker, more adult films), I wouldn't be surprised if this one found its way to Oscar's doorstep – especially since this is the last solo Potter film before the two-part Deathly Hallows finale.

Here are a few quotes from some early reviews:

"David Yates has learned from his mistakes and here he turns in the most confident, stylish, individual, warm-hearted and witty Harry Potter yet." – The Sun

"I was blown away like a Quidditch player on a supercharged broomstick. Not only that, halfway through, I'm thinking the unthinkable: Ten academy awards are available this year ... hmm, I wonder ...." Paul Dergarabedian, Hollywood.com

"Dazzlingly well made and perhaps deliberately less fanciful than the previous entries, this one is played in a mode closer to palpable life-or-death drama than any of the others and is quite effective as such." -- Variety

"The more human side of the story covering the interplay of burgeoning romances doesn't interfere with what is essentially an action extravaganza, making it a great all round viewing experience." - Pink News

So, who's excited about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince now?

You Have GOT TO BE KIDDING -- Elephants Eat More Than Humans

Making the most of their not insignificant weight advantage, three circus elephants scored a decisive victory over three human competitive eaters at a cross-species eating contest on Friday.

Gravy Brown, Eric 'Badlands' Brooker and Juliet Lee get an ass-kicking from Susie, Minnie, and Bunny in the eating contest
The elephants triumphed by forcing down down 505 hot dog buns in six minutes - while the humans could only manage 143 buns in the same time, in the contest at Brooklyn's Coney Island.

The elephants, Bunny, Susie and Minnie - all in their 40s - ate at what appeared to be a leisurely pace from behind a table piled high with buns. They even paused to eat some fresh fruit, which was not counted toward scoring.

Their human competitors were far more focused. Eric 'Badlands' Booker, a New York City subway conductor who is the world champion in corned beef hash eating, took a double-fisted approach, dipping two buns at once into liquid to make them go down easier.

Juliet Lee, a petite 43-year-old, pushed several buns into her stretched mouth simultaneously.

Contest organizers called the results a 'setback for humanity'

Originally from China, Lee is the world cranberry sauce champion, a title she won by eating 13.23 pounds of the sauce in eight minutes.

Tim 'Gravy' Brown, whose claim to fame is having eaten 8.47 pounds (3.84 kilograms) of blueberry pie in an eight-minute, hands-free competition, rounded out the team.

'We went all out, hungry and focused,' said Booker, who like the others was preparing for Saturday's annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest.

Contest organizers called the results a 'setback for humanity,' but it wasn't an entirely fair match. The humans weigh about 500lb collectively, while the Asian elephants weigh about 9 tons, the organizers said.

How To Break Up With A Girl

(The things NOT to do)

by Rob Taylor

June is over and the fresh face of summer love has faded. The wonderful girl you met has changed and you want to get rid of her…here are some tips on what to do and what not to do…

1) Never say “We can still be friends” unless you were friends before you started dating. This will drag out the pain of the break up and the girl will think that there still may be a chance of a reunion. Instead say, “I like you, you’re a good person, blah-de-blah-blah, but we aren’t meant to be together. We need to be free to find who we were truly meant to be with.” That way she will know it’s over, it offers her some closure and you don’t come off looking like a total ass.

Remember; always be honest but not too honest!

If you want to move on, say so. Don’t hem and haw about it, and pussy foot around. However, don’t say "Look, you’ve gotten really fat. I can’t date a fat chick." That will get you killed and her acquitted for the murder. "You know you’re crazy, right?" Bad idea! "I’m looking for somebody younger." Again this will result in your death. Offer honesty like, "We’re two different people now." Or "It’s not working out." These are fine

2) DO NOT break up over the phone…or worse a text message. Doing this will show her that you never really cared and it will give her anger a chance to grow and fester and that means that there WILL be a retaliation…especially when she tells he friends how you two broke up.

3) Break up in a public place. This lessens the chance of her having a weapon handy since you aren’t at her place. This puts her out of her element since she doesn’t know where and, if she does pull a knife, there are a lot of people around to call an ambulance to pick you sorry butt up and drive it to the hospital.

4) Don’t take her anywhere that serves beef and, if you do, don’t wear your good clothes. If they serve beef odds are that they serve wine…red wine and when you break up with her…she WILL throw a glass at you. If you wear older clothes that $1,000 suit of yours is safe in the closet and all that was ruined was a $15 Walmart sweater.

5) Don’t call her or say that she can call you just to see how things are going. The two of you have gone through a break up and she is going to have anger built up. Talking to her is only going to make things worse. And that is something you definitely don’t want.

6) Let her be angry! Let her vent and yell. If it gets too much…simply walk away. What’s she going to do…you are in a public place! Besides that you just broke up with her so her telling your ass off is a fair trade.

Now, these are just guidelines you know. Every break up is different and she is going to somehow get even so be prepared for it. Other than that…you’re done…it’s over and it is time to move on.

VIRTUAL NEW YORK

by Chuck Joy

Rick stood to the back
which was the front
at Club Poetry, nothing but
smoked glass between him
and Seventh Avenue South

Rick stood with Karl,
another of the poets,
also a musician, in fact
Karl and Hipster, Wordsmith,
as a duo, were appearing
at Club Poetry next Saturday

She’s good, Karl whispered
indicating Larese, Larese Davis
on stage, at that moment
animating an intoxicated
female, at her worst addled

She’s real good, Rick agreed
think Beyonce Knowles
playing Etta James
as a poet, uh huh

Rick and Karl nodded
then kept nodding,
the two of them
a regular Beavis and Butthead
